为何选用Eureka?微服务架构中Eureka与Kubernetes选型疑问

Why Choose Eureka + Spring Cloud Over Kubernetes for Microservices?

After building microservices with Eureka and running experiments on Spring Cloud over several weeks, I started asking myself: Why stick with Eureka and Spring Cloud instead of building standalone containers and managing everything end-to-end via Kubernetes? Kubernetes does offer load balancing, service discovery, monitoring, and containerization after all.

Here are the key reasons I’ve come to realize that make Eureka + Spring Cloud a compelling choice for many teams:

  • Developer-friendly tooling: Spring Cloud integrates seamlessly with the Spring ecosystem most Java developers already know. You get things like declarative REST clients (Feign), circuit breakers (Hystrix), and config management (Spring Cloud Config) out of the box—no need to learn Kubernetes-specific YAML or APIs to handle these common microservice patterns. It lets developers focus on writing business logic instead of infrastructure boilerplate.

  • Lower overall infrastructure costs: For smaller to mid-sized systems, running a Kubernetes cluster can be overkill. Eureka and Spring Cloud don’t require the overhead of managing control planes, worker nodes, and persistent storage that come with Kubernetes. You can run your services on simpler VM setups or even PaaS platforms, cutting down on both compute costs and operational complexity.

  • Reduced reliance on ops teams: Spring Cloud abstracts away a lot of infrastructure concerns. Developers can handle service registration, load balancing, and config updates without needing to coordinate with ops for Kubernetes manifest changes or cluster adjustments. This speeds up development cycles and reduces bottlenecks between dev and ops.

  • Rich community and learning resources: The Spring ecosystem has been around for decades, so there’s an enormous amount of tutorials, blog posts, and troubleshooting guides available for Eureka and Spring Cloud. If you hit a problem, chances are someone has already solved it and shared their solution. Kubernetes has a big community too, but the learning material is often more focused on infrastructure rather than application-level microservice patterns.

  • Gentler learning curve: For teams that are already familiar with Spring Boot, extending to Spring Cloud is a natural progression. You don’t have to learn an entirely new orchestration system from scratch. Kubernetes has a steep learning curve—understanding concepts like pods, deployments, services, ingress, and RBAC takes time, which can slow down a team’s ability to deliver features.
