I'm working on a university C# project that requires a 5-layer N-Tier Architecture:

• Data Access Layer
• SQL Layer
• Business Logic Layer (BLL)
• Desktop Front End
• Web Front End (ASP.NET WebForms)

For reporting functionality, I chose ReportViewer + RDLC reports. Everything worked fine when I only needed to generate reports in the desktop frontend early on. But in the final iteration, I need to add report generation to the WebForms project too.

Since the report needs to be accessed by both frontends, I moved the RDLC file to the Business Logic Layer to follow the reuse principle—but I hit a wall. I looked into a couple of related discussions:

1. One suggested setting the RDLC's Copy to Output Directory property to Copy always, then pointing ReportViewer.LocalReport.ReportPath to the report filename. This didn't work for me (or the original questioner).
2. Another noted that ReportViewer can't access reports from other projects directly.

I also tried creating a property in the BLL that returns a pre-configured LocalReport instance, but ReportViewer.LocalReport is read-only, so that approach was a dead end.

I don't have time to rebuild the reports from scratch, and maintaining duplicate RDLC files in both frontend projects is a bad design that I want to avoid. My requirements are clear:

• Both frontend projects must access the same single RDLC file
• I must adhere to the N-Tier Architecture to keep code reusable

Does anyone have a working solution for this?
