关于移除已转为别名的原邮箱所配置自动回复(Out of Office)的咨询
Hey there, let's tackle this lingering out-of-office (OOO) issue you're facing. It’s definitely a tricky scenario when the original mailbox is gone and only exists as an alias now, but there are a few paths you can take to fix this:
First, check the primary mailbox's auto-reply settings
Even though the old address is just an alias now, sometimes the OOO configuration might have been linked to the primary mailbox without you realizing it. Fire up Exchange PowerShell (or Exchange Online PowerShell if you're on the cloud) and run this command to check:
Get-MailboxAutoReplyConfiguration -Identity "your-user-primary-email@domain.com"
Look through the output to see if there’s any mention of the old alias or leftover OOO rules tied to it. If you find something, you can disable it directly with:
Set-MailboxAutoReplyConfiguration -Identity "your-user-primary-email@domain.com" -AutoReplyState Disabled
If that doesn’t work, check for disconnected/soft-deleted mailboxes
When you delete an Exchange mailbox, it doesn’t get wiped immediately—it usually stays as a soft-deleted or disconnected mailbox for a retention period (depending on your setup). You might be able to temporarily restore this old mailbox, turn off the OOO, then delete it again for good.
- First, find the soft-deleted mailbox using:
# For Exchange Online Get-Mailbox -SoftDeletedMailbox | Where-Object {$_.PrimarySmtpAddress -eq "old-alias@domain.com"} # For on-prem Exchange Get-Mailbox -Database "YourExchangeDatabase" -Status Disabled | Where-Object {$_.PrimarySmtpAddress -eq "old-alias@domain.com"} - If you locate it, restore it temporarily with a placeholder identity:
New-Mailbox -SoftDeletedMailbox "old-alias@domain.com" -Name "TempRestore-OldMailbox" -DisplayName "Temporary Restore - Old Alias Mailbox" -Alias "temp-old-mailbox" - Now turn off the OOO for this restored mailbox:
Set-MailboxAutoReplyConfiguration -Identity "temp-old-mailbox" -AutoReplyState Disabled - Finally, permanently delete this temporary mailbox to clean up:
Remove-Mailbox -Identity "temp-old-mailbox" -Permanent $true
If all else fails, reach out to support
If you can’t find the disconnected mailbox or the above steps don’t resolve the issue, the OOO configuration might be stuck in Exchange’s backend. In this case, your best bet is to contact your internal Exchange admin team (if on-prem) or Microsoft 365 support (if cloud) to help clear that lingering configuration.
