HoloLens + Unity 2017.3.0f3: Rainbow Color Separation & Jitter on World Space Canvas at Specific Viewing Angle
I'm building a HoloLens application using Unity 2017.3.0f3, and I've run into a perplexing rendering issue with a World Space Canvas launched via voice commands. Here's the breakdown of the problem:
- The canvas loads and displays perfectly stable when first activated.
- However, when I move around to a specific viewing angle (approximately 65° left from the 6 o'clock position, with the canvas as the center point), it immediately exhibits severe rainbow-like color separation and heavy jitter.
- The glitch lasts roughly 2 seconds before the canvas returns to normal, but stepping back into that exact angle triggers the issue again instantly.
I’ve already attempted several common stability optimizations, but none have resolved the problem:
- Implemented
SetFocusPointForFrame()to manually set the focus point for each frame - Reduced the application’s frame rate to 24 FPS
- Set all graphics quality settings to their lowest possible values
A couple of strange additional details that might help diagnose this:
- The visual effect is comparable to the rendering glitch shown around the 6:25 mark in a widely referenced HoloLens issue demo, but my color separation is far more pronounced and the jitter is significantly worse.
- When trying to record the issue using the HoloLens Device Portal, the canvas doesn’t glitch—it simply disappears entirely, which has made capturing concrete debug footage impossible.
I’m really stuck on this angle-specific bug and would greatly appreciate any technical advice, potential fixes, or debugging tips from the community.
