Connect Runtime v1.0.0分布式模式启动配置警告问题咨询

Understanding Those Kafka Connect Warning Logs

Root Cause

When running Kafka Connect in distributed mode, you're setting worker-level configurations like offset.storage.topic, offset.storage.partitions, etc.—these are exclusive to the Connect Worker itself, not the underlying Kafka clients (Consumer, Producer, AdminClient) that Connect spins up internally.

Here's what happens: Connect passes all the configuration properties you provide to every internal client it creates. But the client config classes (org.apache.kafka.clients.consumer.ConsumerConfig, org.apache.kafka.clients.admin.AdminClientConfig, org.apache.kafka.clients.producer.ProducerConfig) don't recognize these Worker-specific settings. So each time a client initializes, it logs a warning saying "this config isn't known to me"—even though the Connect Worker already picked up and used those values correctly.

Do You Need to Worry?

Absolutely not. These warnings are just harmless noise from the client config validation step. Your connector is running normally because the Connect Worker is properly using the offset.storage.topic and other required settings. The warnings don't affect functionality, performance, or data integrity—they're just the client classes complaining about configurations they don't need to care about.

Optional: Reducing the Noise

If the flood of warnings is annoying you, a couple of practical options:

  • Ignore them: Since they don't impact anything, this is the simplest low-effort approach.
  • Upgrade Kafka Connect: Newer versions (2.0 and above) improved how configurations are passed to internal clients, which reduces or eliminates these false warnings. If possible, upgrading beyond v1.0.0 will clean up your logs without changing your core worker setup.
