Hey everyone, I’ve been stuck with a really annoying problem in Visual Studio 2019 versions from 16.3.5 up to 16.3.8, and I wanted to lay out the details in case anyone else is facing the same headache.

The Issue Breakdown #

• After using VS for a while, the background process counter in the bottom-left corner just keeps growing—and none of these processes will terminate.
• Once the count hits 5 or more, VS becomes practically unusable: even basic actions like typing stutter badly, and CPU usage skyrockets.
• Clicking that bottom-left icon shows the message "Running low priority background tasks", with a counter that keeps climbing indefinitely. These tasks never actually complete.

Troubleshooting Steps I’ve Tried (That Didn’t Work) #

I went through all the standard fixes to try and resolve this, but nothing made a difference:

• Deleted VS installation directories and temporary files
• Disabled every single extension
• Submitted a bug report to Microsoft, but haven’t received any response so far

Temporary Fix & Request for Help #
