MacOS终端ls命令@符号含义及文件属性修改方法问询

On macOS, the @ suffix after the file permissions (like in -rw-r--r--@) indicates that the file has extended attributes. These are macOS-specific metadata attached to the file that go beyond standard Unix file permissions. Common examples include:

• Quarantine flags (added automatically when you download files from the internet, to warn you about opening untrusted content)
• Finder tags, comments, or custom labels
• App-specific metadata from tools like Photoshop or other macOS-native software

This is often why Git shows unexpected differences for these files—Git can detect changes in these extended attributes even if the file's actual content hasn't been modified.

How to inspect extended attributes #

To see exactly what attributes a file has, use the xattr command:

• List all attribute names for a file: xattr README.filetwo.md
• View detailed information about each attribute: xattr -l README.filetwo.md

Recommended ways to modify these files (and fix Git differences) #

Option 1: Clear unnecessary extended attributes #

If the attributes are causing Git issues and you don't need them (like quarantine flags), you can remove all extended attributes from the file with:

xattr -c README.filetwo.md

Or target a specific attribute (e.g., the quarantine flag) to remove:

xattr -d com.apple.quarantine README.filetwo.md

After running this, the @ symbol will disappear from the ls -lh output, and Git should only flag the file as modified if its actual content changes.

Option 2: Track attributes in Git (if needed) #

If you need to preserve the extended attributes and have Git track them, you can configure Git to handle specific attributes using a .gitattributes file or the core.attributesFile setting. For example, you’d add rules to specify which attributes to include in version control. This is more advanced, so only use this if you explicitly need to retain the metadata across Git operations.
