GORM多对多字段查询问题:关联Company数据为空的解决

Fixing Null Companies Field in GORM Many-to-Many Query

Hey there! The reason your companies field is returning null is because GORM uses lazy loading by default — it won't automatically fetch associated relationships unless you explicitly tell it to. Let's walk through a couple of solutions depending on what you need:

1. Load Full Company Objects (with IDs)

If you want the complete Company data (including ID) in the response, use GORM's Preload method to eager-load the Companies association. Just update your query to include Preload("Companies"):

func GetAllPeople() *[]domain.Person {
  var people []domain.Person
  // Eager-load the Companies association
  db.Preload("Companies").Find(&people)
  return &people
}

This will populate the companies field with an array of Company objects, each containing their id (and other fields if present). Your response will look like:

{"id": 1, "name": "erfan", "family": "doe", "companies": [{"id": 1, "name": "Acme Corp"}, {"id": 2, "name": "Tech Inc"}]}

2. Load Only Company IDs (Slimmer Response)

If you only need the list of company IDs (not the full Company objects), you can tweak the Preload to select just the ID field:

func GetAllPeople() *[]domain.Person {
  var people []domain.Person
  // Preload only the ID field of associated Companies
  db.Preload("Companies", func(db *gorm.DB) *gorm.DB {
    return db.Select("ID")
  }).Find(&people)
  return &people
}

Now your companies field will be an array of objects with just the ID:

{"id": 1, "name": "erfan", "family": "doe", "companies": [{"id": 1}, {"id": 2}]}

3. Return a Pure Array of IDs (Optional)

If you want the companies field to be a flat array of IDs (like [1,2] instead of objects), you'll need to add a helper field to your Person struct and map the IDs manually:

First, update your Person model:

type Person struct {
  ID uint `json:"id" gorm:"primary_key;unique;autoIncrement"`
  Name string `json:"name" binding:"required"`
  Family string `json:"family" binding:"required"`
  Companies []Company `json:"-" gorm:"many2many:person_companies;"` // Hide from JSON
  CompanyIDs []uint `json:"companies"` // Expose as ID array
}

Then modify your query to extract the IDs after loading:

func GetAllPeople() *[]domain.Person {
  var people []domain.Person
  db.Preload("Companies").Find(&people)

  // Map associated Company IDs to the helper field
  for idx := range people {
    idList := make([]uint, len(people[idx].Companies))
    for compIdx, company := range people[idx].Companies {
      idList[compIdx] = company.ID
    }
    people[idx].CompanyIDs = idList
  }

  return &people
}

This will give you the exact format you might want:

{"id": 1, "name": "erfan", "family": "doe", "companies": [1,2]}

Quick Side Note

Also, notice that your Company struct has a lowercase cars field — GORM only recognizes uppercase-started fields by default for database mapping. If you ever need to use that association later, rename it to Cars so GORM can pick it up.
