如何通过Binding在GroupModel3D中显示PointGeometryModel3D?
Problem Description
I'm using SharpDX with Helix Toolkit to load and display 3D models. My setup works perfectly for MeshGeometryModel3D collections using GroupModel3D:
<hx:Viewport3DX EffectsManager="{Binding EffectsManager}" Camera="{Binding Camera}" ModelUpDirection="0,0,1"> <hx:AmbientLight3D Color="{StaticResource ModelAmbientLightColor}" /> <hx:DirectionalLight3D Direction="{Binding Camera.LookDirection}" Color="{StaticResource ModelDirectionalLightColor}" /> <hx:Element3DPresenter Content="{Binding MainModel}" /> <hx:GroupModel3D ItemsSource="{Binding ListOfAdditionalModels}"/> </hx:Viewport3DX>
Here, ListOfAdditionalModels is an ObservableElement3DCollection of MeshGeometryModel3D instances, and all models render correctly.
However, when trying to do the same with a collection of PointGeometryModel3D, nothing displays:
<hx:Viewport3DX EffectsManager="{Binding EffectsManager}" Camera="{Binding Camera}" ZoomExtentsWhenLoaded="True" > <hx:AmbientLight3D Color="#030303" /> <hx:DirectionalLight3D Direction="{Binding Camera.LookDirection}" Color="White" /> <hx:GroupModel3D ItemsSource="{Binding ListOfPointCloudModels, UpdateSourceTrigger=PropertyChanged}" > </hx:GroupModel3D> </hx:Viewport3DX>
The strange part is that displaying a single PointGeometryModel3D directly works fine:
<hx:Viewport3DX EffectsManager="{Binding EffectsManager}" Camera="{Binding Camera}" BackgroundColor="#FF88AACD" ZoomExtentsWhenLoaded="True" > <hx:AmbientLight3D Color="#030303" /> <hx:DirectionalLight3D Direction="{Binding Camera.LookDirection}" Color="White" /> <hx:PointGeometryModel3D Color="{x:Static Colors.White}" Geometry="{Binding PointsModel.Geometry}" Figure="Rect" Size="10 10" > </hx:PointGeometryModel3D> </hx:Viewport3DX>
I suspect I need to tell GroupModel3D to use the Geometry property of its items, but I'm not sure how to implement this.
Root Cause
The issue is that GroupModel3D doesn't have a default ItemTemplate that properly handles PointGeometryModel3D instances. For MeshGeometryModel3D, the default template works because those models have a more straightforward rendering path that the toolkit handles automatically. But PointGeometryModel3D requires explicit binding of its critical properties (like Geometry, Color, Size, and Figure) to render correctly.
When you add a single PointGeometryModel3D directly, you're explicitly setting all these properties. But when using GroupModel3D with a collection, you need to define how each item in the collection should be rendered—otherwise, the toolkit doesn't know how to map your PointGeometryModel3D objects to visual elements.
Solution
You need to define an ItemTemplate for your GroupModel3D that explicitly creates a PointGeometryModel3D and binds its properties to the corresponding properties in your collection items. Here's how to fix your code:
<hx:Viewport3DX EffectsManager="{Binding EffectsManager}" Camera="{Binding Camera}" ZoomExtentsWhenLoaded="True" > <hx:AmbientLight3D Color="#030303" /> <hx:DirectionalLight3D Direction="{Binding Camera.LookDirection}" Color="White" /> <hx:GroupModel3D ItemsSource="{Binding ListOfPointCloudModels, UpdateSourceTrigger=PropertyChanged}" > <hx:GroupModel3D.ItemTemplate> <DataTemplate> <hx:PointGeometryModel3D Color="{Binding Color}" Geometry="{Binding Geometry}" Figure="Rect" Size="10 10" /> </DataTemplate> </hx:GroupModel3D.ItemTemplate> </hx:GroupModel3D> </hx:Viewport3DX>
Notes:
- Adjust the bindings (like
ColorandSize) to match the properties exposed by yourPointGeometryModel3Dinstances inListOfPointCloudModels. If all your point models use the same color/size, you can hardcode those values instead of binding them. - Make sure
ListOfPointCloudModelsis anObservableCollection<PointGeometryModel3D>(or similar bindable collection type) and that your view model implementsINotifyPropertyChanged(which you're probably already doing since the single model works).
This template tells GroupModel3D to create a PointGeometryModel3D for each item in your collection and bind the necessary properties to render the point cloud correctly.
