Git变基时将pick替换为squash/s的快捷操作方式咨询

Speed Up Squashing Commits During Git Rebase (No Manual Line-by-Line Edits!)

Great question—having to manually change 50 pick lines to s during an interactive rebase is such a tedious task. Luckily, there are way faster ways to do this, no single-line shortcuts required (though your editor has bulk tools that work even better):

1. Use Your Editor's Bulk Replace (With Regex)

Most code editors/terminal editors support regex-based find-and-replace, which lets you target every line starting with pick in one go:

For VS Code (if you've set it as your Git editor):

  • Press Cmd+Option+F (Mac) or Ctrl+Shift+F (Windows/Linux) to open the global find/replace panel
  • Toggle on regex mode (click the .* button in the panel)
  • In the "Find" field, enter ^pick (the ^ ensures we only match pick at the start of a line)
  • In the "Replace" field, enter s
  • Click "Replace All" to instantly change every matching line

For Vim (default Git editor for many systems):

  • When you're in the rebase edit screen, type :%s/^pick/s/g and press Enter
    • % targets all lines
    • s/^pick/s/g replaces every instance of pick at the start of a line with s
  • Save and exit with :wq

For Nano:

  • Press Alt+R to enable regex mode
  • Press Ctrl+\ to open the replace prompt
  • Enter ^pick as the search term, then s as the replacement
  • Press Alt+A to replace all occurrences

2. Target a Range of Commits (If You Don't Need to Squash Every Single One)

If you only want to squash commits starting from the 2nd one to the last (keeping the first commit as pick), you can narrow the replace range:

  • In Vim: :2,$s/^pick/s/g (targets lines 2 through the end)
  • In VS Code: Use the line number filters in the find panel, or select the lines you want and use Cmd+Option+F (Mac) / Ctrl+Shift+H (Windows) to replace only in the selected range

3. Use Git's Autosquash Feature (For Prepped Commits)

If you can plan ahead, you can mark commits to be squashed before starting the rebase:

  • When making a commit that should be squashed into a previous one, use git commit --fixup <commit-hash> or git commit --squash <commit-hash>
  • Then run git rebase -i --autosquash <base-branch>—Git will automatically set up the rebase file with fixup or squash for those commits, no editing needed!

This way you can avoid the manual edit step entirely for future commits.
