基于Zero to Kubernetes指南在GKE上Helm安装JupyterHub失败求助
My Problem
I'm working through the Zero to Kubernetes GKE setup guide, and had no issues getting Kubernetes and Helm installed. But when I ran this command to set up JupyterHub:
helm upgrade --cleanup-on-fail \ --install $RELEASE jupyterhub/jupyterhub \ --namespace $NAMESPACE \ --create-namespace \ --version=0.9.0 \ --values config.yaml
I hit this error:
Release "jhub" does not exist. Installing it now. Error: failed pre-install: timed out waiting for the condition
I followed GKE's troubleshooting steps and added --timeout 1200s to the command, but that didn't fix it. I’ve actually deployed this exact setup twice before on GKE (then deleted the clusters afterwards), so I couldn’t figure out why it was breaking now. I was even considering switching to deploying on Azure AD, but really wanted to get it working on GKE.
How I Fixed It
After double-checking every part of my setup, I noticed a tiny change I’d made in config.yaml—I’d updated the Jupyter version tag from 1.0.7 to 1.1.0 by mistake. This created a conflict between the Jupyter image I was trying to use and the JupyterHub 0.9.0 configuration.
As someone still learning the ropes with Jupyter and JupyterHub, I feel a bit silly missing this, but hopefully this helps anyone else who runs into a similar timeout issue with a non-obvious root cause!
