AWS EC2分区放置组中Rack的含义是什么？

Hey there, let's break this down clearly based on AWS's design and the resources you referenced:

1. 首先：EC2分区放置组里的Rack是什么？ #

Exactly what you suspected—this Rack refers to the traditional physical server rack unit in AWS's public cloud data centers. These racks are groups of physical servers that share critical infrastructure like power distribution units (PDUs) and top-of-rack network switches.

AWS's partition placement groups are built around isolating partitions at this rack level: each partition gets its own dedicated set of racks, so no two partitions in the same placement group share any rack. This is a deliberate fault-isolation measure—if a rack loses power, has a network outage, or experiences hardware failure, only the instances in one partition are affected, leaving the rest of your distributed workload (like Hadoop, Cassandra, or replicated databases) up and running.

2. 这和AWS Outpost Rack是一回事吗？ #

Nope, they're distinct concepts:

• Outpost Rack is a physical AWS infrastructure unit that you deploy in your own on-premises data center. It's essentially a mini AWS cloud rack brought to your local environment, running the same EC2, EBS, and other services you use in the public cloud.
• The racks referenced in partition placement groups are the standard racks inside AWS's public cloud regions. While Outposts do support placement groups (including partition groups), the "rack" in that context refers to the physical rack units within the Outpost device itself—not the Outpost Rack as a whole.

To tie back to the resources you mentioned:

• The EC2 partition placement group guidance for distributed workloads emphasizes this rack-level isolation as a key way to enhance availability for replicated systems.
• The Outpost Rack content clarifies that it's an on-prem extension of AWS infrastructure, separate from the racks used in public cloud placement groups.
