求助:!htrace检测句柄泄漏时仅显示14个调用栈帧,.kframes命令无效

Fixing !htrace's Limited 14-Frame Stack Display

I’ve run into this exact frustration before—!htrace ignoring WinDbg’s .kframes setting can feel like hitting a wall, but the solution usually lies in adjusting how GFlags captures stack traces or how !htrace displays them. Here’s how to get more frames showing up:

1. Adjust GFlags' Stack Trace Depth (Critical Step)

The stack traces !htrace shows come directly from the user-mode stack trace database created by GFlags. By default, GFlags only captures 16 frames (which often translates to 14 visible frames after excluding internal system-level calls). To increase this:

  • Open GFlags (run gflags.exe as administrator)
  • Navigate to the Image File tab
  • Select your target executable (or type its name in the "Image" field if it’s not listed)
  • Under "User mode stack trace database", set "Stack trace depth" to a higher value (e.g., 32 or 64)
  • Click "Apply" and restart your target process—changes only take effect on new process launches.

2. Use !htrace's Built-in Frame Limit Parameter

!htrace has its own flag to control frame display, independent of WinDbg’s .kframes. Instead of running plain !htrace, use the -frames option to specify how many frames you want to see:

!htrace -frames 32

This forces !htrace to display up to 32 frames per handle allocation, assuming GFlags captured that many in the first place.

3. Verify WinDbg's .kframes Setting (Just to Be Thorough)

While !htrace doesn’t always respect .kframes, it’s worth setting it to a high value before running the command to rule out edge cases:

.kframes 100
!htrace -frames 32

Additional Troubleshooting Tips

  • Make sure GFlags was enabled before process start: If you turned on stack tracing after launching the process, handles allocated prior won’t have full stack traces. Always restart the process after adjusting GFlags.
  • Check for truncated stacks: In rare cases, some handle allocations might have shorter stacks due to stack overflow or system optimizations. If only specific handles show 14 frames, this could be normal behavior.
  • Use !htrace for leak detection efficiently: Run !htrace -snapshot early in the process, then !htrace -diff later. This highlights only handles allocated since the snapshot, making it easier to focus on potential leaks.
