.NET与.NET Core是否为同一框架的不同名称？基于.NET 5命名变更的技术问询

Let's break down your questions clearly to eliminate any confusion:

1. Did .NET Core officially get renamed to .NET? #

Yes, that's exactly what happened. Starting with .NET 5, Microsoft retired the ".NET Core" branding and rebranded this modern, cross-platform framework simply as .NET. This wasn't just a cosmetic name change—it marked a strategic shift to a unified .NET platform that replaces the older Windows-only .NET Framework, while absorbing other .NET ecosystems like Xamarin and ASP.NET Core into a single, cohesive stack.

The two naming reasons you noted reinforce this transition:

• Skipping version 4.x avoided mix-ups with the long-standing .NET Framework 4.x line, which is a separate (now legacy) framework.
• Dropping the "Core" label emphasized that this is now the primary, future-focused implementation of .NET.

2. Were .NET and .NET Core always the same framework with different names? #

No, they weren't distinct names for the same thing before .NET 5. Here's the key difference:

• .NET Framework: The original Windows-exclusive framework launched in 2002. It's now in maintenance mode (only security updates are released) and no longer gets new feature updates.
• .NET Core: A lightweight, cross-platform rewrite of .NET introduced in 2016 to fix limitations of .NET Framework (like lack of cross-platform support). It served as the foundation for modern .NET development before the rebranding.

With .NET 5 and later versions, the .NET platform is built directly on the .NET Core codebase, expanding it to support more app types and platforms than either .NET Core or .NET Framework ever did. So while today's .NET is the evolution of .NET Core, they weren't the same framework prior to the rebranding.
