Ubuntu Server 18.04.1 LTS中openfortivpn与pppd连接故障求助

大家好，我在Ubuntu Server 18.04.1 LTS上部署openfortivpn时碰到了棘手的问题，折腾了好一阵没搞定，想请各位大佬帮忙看看。

我目前是用root用户操作的，执行的命令如下：

sudo openfortivpn --trusted-cert 6f0ac15ce35ca1af5e3b751475asdfasdf4ba7a1ec289eda308b95cbf13 xxxxx.xxxxx.xxx.xx:10443 -u 2234 <<< '123'

命令执行后的输出信息是这样的：

VPN account password:

INFO:   Connected to gateway.

INFO:   Authenticated.

INFO:   Remote gateway has allocated a VPN.

ERROR:  read: Input/output error

INFO:   Cancelling threads...

ERROR:  pppd: Is not setuid-root and the invoking user is not root.

INFO:   Terminated pppd.

INFO:   Closed connection to gateway.

INFO:   Logged out.

这里特别奇怪，明明我用的就是root用户，却还是弹出了pppd: Is not setuid-root and the invoking user is not root的错误提示。

我已经确认系统里安装了ppp组件，而且是通过apt-get更新到最新版本的：

dpkg -l | grep ppp

对应的输出：

ii  ppp                                 2.4.7-2+2ubuntu1.3                amd64        Point-to-Point Protocol (PPP) - daemon

但单独运行pppd的时候依然报错：

sudo pppd

输出内容：

Couldn't open the /dev/ppp device: Operation not permitted

pppd: Sorry - this system lacks PPP kernel support

尝试加载ppp内核模块也失败了：

modprobe ppp

输出：

modprobe: ERROR: ../libkmod/libkmod.c:514 lookup_builtin_file() could not open builtin file '/lib/modules/4.15.0/modules.builtin.bin'

modprobe: FATAL: Module ppp not found in directory /lib/modules/4.15.0

查看这个内核模块相关文件的状态：

ls -l /lib/modules/4.15.0/modules.builtin.bin

输出显示文件大小为0：

-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 0 Feb 17 04:01 /lib/modules/4.15.0/modules.builtin.bin

感觉问题出在内核模块相关的文件上，但我实在不知道该怎么修复，有没有大佬能指点一下呀？
